BALTIC LYRE 2018

Rules

International competition-festival of performers of instrumental and vocal music Lyre Baltic will be held from 8 to 11 February in one of the European cultural capitals of Riga, Latvia.

The program of the international contest-festival: evening meetings, contests, workshops, tours, out-of-competition program.

The festival-competition consists of instrumental music and academic vocal.

Date of conducting of competitions: 10.02.2018.

Venue: concert hall of “Moscow House” in Riga (Marijas iela 7).

The purpose and objectives of the competition:

1. Identification and promotion of gifted musicians and performers
2. The introduction of talented actors to international cooperation programmes
3. Promotion of academic genres
4. The establishment of creative contacts
5. Demonstration of mastery
6. The strengthening and promotion of friendly relations
7. Familiarization with the culture and history of Riga

Participants

The competition is open to students in educational institutions, music schools, children’s art schools, secondary special music schools, creativity centres, universities, students and Amateur groups in age from 7 to 30 years.

In the children’s groups are permitted to attend adult musicians to 20% of the total number of participants.

The contest nominations and age categories

1. Instrumental music

Participants: soloists, duets, trios, quartets, quintets, ensembles, orchestras.

Competitive nominations:

— Classical music
— Folk music
— Contemporary music
Jazz

Age categories:

A — up to 6 years
B — 7-9 years
C — 10-13 years
D — 14-17 years
E — 18 and older
F — combined group

Note: belonging to the age category is determined by the average age of the participants.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAM

Applicants should prepare 1 piece in one or several nominations, duration:

Solo, duet, trio, Quartet, quintet, ensemble – up to 3.5 minutes.
Orchestra – up to 5 minutes.

You cannot exceed a certain position on the timing of an executable program. If you exceed the time allotted in the position to execute the programme, the organising Committee or jury may stop the performance and to reduce the assessment.

Musical instruments and music stands, the participants bring with them and bear all costs associated with their transportation.

2. Vocal music

Participants: soloists, duets, trios, quartets, quintets, ensembles, choirs.

Age categories:

A — up to 6 years
B — 7-9 years
C — 10-13 years
D — 14-17 years
E — 18 and older
F — combined group

Note: belonging to the age category is determined by the average age of the participants.

Nominations:

Opera
— Operetta, musical
Jazz
— Romance
— Folk song

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAM

Applicants should prepare 1 piece in one or more of the categories, a duration of 3.5 minutes.

You cannot exceed a certain position on the timing of an executable program. If you exceed the time allotted in the position to execute the programme, the organising Committee or jury may stop the performance and to reduce the assessment.

For accompaniment is a piano. Can be used other instruments to accompany and soundtrack. If necessary, the microphones for the sound of voices and instruments. Can perform a capella.

Musical instruments and music stands, the participants bring with them and bear all costs associated with their transportation.

Jury

The international jury consists of producers, teachers of specialized educational institutions, heads of creative collectives and organizations, figures of culture and art.
The performance of participants is evaluated on ten-point system
The jury member does not evaluate the participant if he is the Manager or mentor of the participant.

The jury’s decision is final and not subject to change.

Evaluation criteria for speeches:

1. Correspondence of the repertoire to the requirements and the performance capabilities of the participant
2. Culture and technique (they correspond to the specified rate, the characteristics of the style, purity of intonation and quality of sounding, mastery)
3. The disclosing of a figurative content of the work; expressive and emotional performance (according to the author, the inadmissibility of text errors)
4. General artistic impression
5. The mandatory compliance norms of the concert performances of the practice (instrument setup, concert appearance, culture, behavior)

Assessment of competitive performances:

Grade is given on a scale of 10 points by each jury member.

Evaluations are summarized and displays the average score.

10 points – Grand Prix
8-9 – first place
7-8 points – II place
6-7 points – III place
1-5 points – a certificate for participation

Awarding ceremony:

1, 2, 3 places are awarded in each nomination and age group.

The jury allowed duplication of prize-winning places (two first places, second etc.).

Grand Prix is awarded to the soloist or group, regardless of nominations and age categories in the vocal competition in the instrumental competition.

Grand Prix may not be awarded if the participants scored the highest number of points.

In the case of controversial issues, while evaluating the jury, the organizing Committee has 1 vote.

All participants will receive diplomas, according to the decision of the jury, trophies and medals.

The prize pool and special prizes

The prize Fund of 1000 EUR:

— Money certificates for participation in one of the competitions of the production center Impresa in 2018
-2 certificate in the amount of 200 euros
-4 certificate EUR 100
-4 certificate worth 50 Euro
— Special prizes and gifts from organizers and sponsors

The prize Fund is distributed based on the decision of the jury and the organizing Committee.

Competition requirements

To participate in the contest must submit an application to one or several categories.

For participation in festival it is necessary:

— send the application form for participation till 10 Jan 2018
— to submit biography
— to send a photo (electronic in JPG format)
— pay the registration fee immediately upon receipt of confirmation of participation

Additional information

Change the stated room in less than 10 days prior to competition is prohibited.

Technical requirements (microphones, stands, props) need to submit when applying.

Is allowed in the room by up to 30% more artists from the younger or older age group.

The exact schedule of events will be available at the organizing Committee for 5 days prior to the competition.

Submit the application to the competition implies acceptance of the terms hereof.

Copyright

By entering and participating in the competition Baltic Lyre, the performers agree on photo and video shooting and audio recording of their performances on stage and other events of the contest and transfer the resulting copyrights to the organizer of the competition.

Financial terms

The costs associated with travel, medical insurance, and stay in Latvia, the parties shall at their own expense or at the expense of the organization, the directing participant.

For foreign participants the organizing Committee assists in the issue of visas into the Latvia, reserve hotel, transfers and a tour of Riga.

For the invitation letter are requested to send accurate information about the member and make a Deposit of 30% of the total amount!

Questions illuminated the current state of competition, the organizing Committee decides on an individual basis. In case of any questions as well as comments and suggestions for the contest, heads (pedagogues) have right to send a written request to the email address of the organizing Committee.
